pepWhat is PEP?
PEP is a way to prevent HIV infection.
If there is an action or event that could potentially lead to HIV infection, emergency medicine can be taken to prevent it from occurring in the body.
It is necessary to take PEP within 72 hours (3 days) of potential infection. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is in preventing infection.
PEP is used to prevent infections caused by needlestick accidents among medical workers. In recent years, it has also been used to prevent infections by sex overseas.
*PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis) is a method of taking medicine urgently “after” a possible exposure.

- Had sex without a condom with someone who is or may be infected with HIV
- Are healthcare professionals and just experienced a needlestick injury, etc.
How to take PEP
Take medicines every day for 30 days.
Take once a day at the same time every day.
Follow-up testing
We recommend you to take a follow-up testing one month, 3 months, and 6 months after starting PEP.
PEP is not applicable for people:
- Infected with HIV
- Infected with hepatitis B virus
- Having kidney problems

*PEP is intended to prevent HIV infection and is not applicable for people already infected with HIV.
*PEP medications will also treat hepatitis B and is not applicable for people already infected with hepatitis B virus.
*Patients with kidney problems cannot take PEP since it may cause kidney side-effects in very rare cases.
PEP cost
PEP reception hours: 11:00 a.m. to 0:30 p.m. / 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please note that we will not be able to accept patients outside of these hours.
